I have a Good experience with Elance and odesk. I started my carrier with odesk. Currently i have a bright profile there but now days its very hard to get a contract as a SEO...:( so Just one words like to use Try try try..:)
Using freelancers has many advantages and disadvantages. For example some may say they are professionals, but actually are not but still accept the project. Then again you will find people who are professionals but cost a good amount.
Depending on what you need and the reason for the hire, will determine if freelancers are the best route. Personally, yes they have some good value to them :)
