Review of the Book
The book is about 80 pages long. I was hoping that the book would be a good reference for writing erotica, but its poor organization had me quickly skimming sections looking for helpful, useful information. The book also uses old-fashioned courier font which makes it hard to read and uses an unusual method of quoting which is distracting.
A large portion of the book is devoted to guidelines of the various non-Amazon/Kindle online publishers of erotica -- which can be extremely tiring, useless and drawn-out. The author takes out large portions of online publishers guidelines and quotes them in the book -- there are so many guidelines that one can easily get confused -- and not helpful for the aspiring erotic author.
What is the book useful for:
-- Resource list of online erotica publishers;
-- Erotica topics to avoid;
-- Chapter on Plots and Characters - 5 pages;
-- Chapter on Language guidelines - 2 pages;
-- Chapter on Character Development - 2 pages.
If you are just starting out you may want to try and read first (all shared here in the Freebies sections) --
Alison Kent - The Complete Idiots Guide to Writing Erotic Romance -- 500 pages that read like 100 pages -- very easy to read and chock full of good ideas.
Ryan Leonard - The Kindle Love Case Study - Tap into the Hottest Market on Amazon Kindle -- 17 pages of quick steps to putting together an erotic book using outsourcing.
What Did I Learn
Erotica is a huge and very profitable book niche but unless you spend you day eating, drinking and living romance -- it can be tough to write about. Easier way to publish a book would be to outsource it to the many, many ghost writers. And believe me there are many fine ghost writers that would be willing to write a 10,000 to 20,000 word novella based on your plot ideas for less than $100.
I'll try and put together a Romance and Erotica Book AIO in the next few days to help those really interested in this niche.
