I'm not sure if google is tweaking penguin right now but for in the past few days this is the highest I've been since the penguin update. For my main keyword on the site I'm talking about I dropped from #1 (1st result not page) to #10 on a keyword that has 220,000 searches a month. I read through forums, posts, and all sorts of other nonsense and the general consensus was keyword diversity.
I then used GSA search engine ranker since it has about 100 platforms it posts to. I set up 4 campaigns, basically 1 is for keywords I want and I made this 10 keywords at once rather than just 3 like I had done before. Guestbooks, Images, Blogs, and forums, I set this up as 30% of all links. The other important one is the Dillute campaign. It posts to platforms that use naked urls, generic keywords like "Visit Site". I made the dilute campaign 50% of all links generated. I then made the final 2 15% each, one is for social bookmarking, the other is for article directories and article sites.
I then have GSA Auto submit backlinks to lindexed but I"m not sure if this is a good idea or not. Regardless, after 4 days of doing this I have climbed back from #10 to #4. I'm not sure if it's because of what I"m doing, or if they are tweaking penguin, but regardless I thought I'd share how I accomplished it in case it helps anyone figure out this bullshit.
This also raises a suspicion I have that google is targeting blog networks and possibly web 2.0's. I'm not sure if they are going after specific sites that all the big seo programs use or if they have invented some kind of way to detect linkwheels. I have specificly stayed away from them until someone comes out with solid evidence of what's going on. I can though say that using GSA the way I described has not damaged me post penguin, in fact, if anything it has raised me in the rankings. It leads me to believe that penguin doesn't target guestbooks, image comments, bookmarking, and less known blog engines. I have heard people saying in other forums that using scrapebox the proper way to post a few comments on high pr sites was raising their ranking as well.
Something I also noticed, it may be time to remove those bold tags around keywords as well as alt image tags for keywords. On a new site i made to test penguin I've ranked 36th already on a keyword totally post penguin, seo certainly isn't dead there is still a way to do it. The keyword however happens to be the only keyword I was trying to rank for that wasn't surrounded in bold tags on my website.
