Subject Lines

What makes a good subject line?

- It piques your curiosity (most important)
- It promises a benefit
- It’s specific
- It has proof in it

“This ad made me $1k a day for 3 years”

- Curiosity (what’s the ad?)
- Benefit (made $1k a day)
- Specificity (made $1k a day for 3 years)
- It has proof of making a specific amount

“Actress reveals “bathroom trick” that makes her feel years younger”

- Curiosity to know what the “bathroom trick” is
- Benefit is it makes you feel years younger
- Specificity (saying “years younger” is better than saying “younger”)
- Proof: actress saying it

Getting More Clicks

The “secret sauce” for getting clicks…

- Use copy on your links that entices them to click (don’t just paste a link)
- Add in some type of image that’s clickable if it fits with the email copy
- Give them multiple chances to click (optional)

Re-use the subject line works really well. If they opened the email because of the subject line then it will probably work for the click.

A few notes on the images…

- Amateur images tend to work better than professional ones
- Using a play button on your image will help to get more clicks
- Weird, strange-looking things get clicks
