@All: Thank you all for the kind expressions, reps and support. I appreciate that you like this share.
@GalaxyQuest2: Sorry I'm only now seeing your question. Anyway, I use IDM and have it integrated with my browser via an extension --- so when I manually click the course file link, IDM opens. I go into the settings using the ellipsis link (...) and change the file to wherever I want it stored but I also change the title from Main (or whatever Skillshare has the modules labeled as) to something of my choice. Usually, it's Module 1, Module 2, etc. --- but it could be as detailed as the titles that show up in the menu on the Skillshare download page.
For example, you can see the file part titles in the image below...
So instead of a generic name (like Main for example), I would go in and overwrite that to be 01-Introduction, 02-Finding a Subject, etc. That also makes the file parts fall into chronological order easily so I can consume the information as it is presented in the course structure.
You won't be able to do this easily if you download the files automatically. I don't mind doing it manually because so far, the Skillshare courses are in a manageable number of modules or parts. So, I end up with the file parts and titles on my computer matching the ones in the original course.
I hope this answers your question but if not, please send me a PM and I'll try to find another way to explain it.
@saxophone: It looks like earlier today, you posted this:
Moments ago, I grabbed a new Skillshare course link then tested it in that Heck or No Hecking site I mentioned at Step 2 in my OP.
I can't be sure why this didn't work for you but if you followed my instructions, I can only guess it was a changeover to another server that caused a glitch.
When I used the site moments ago, I noticed it re-directed me to its new home. The URL changed but the site looks the same and it functions the same.
So I'm here to tell you it's still working. But there's nothing like showing you...
First, here's the new site URL that the old one re-directs you to:
Heck Or No Hecking --- New Location
So using the link in my OP should automatically get you to the new URL. If that didn't happen, it means they weren't done so you got an error message instead.
I did a search in Google with the keywords: skillshare.com low-content publishing and chose this link for a course called Journal Publishing: Design and Sell Your Own Low-Content Books:
Skillshare Course Link
And here's my Skillshare course link in the search field on the new Heck or No Hecking site:
After waiting a few seconds --- violĂ :
I started downloading the files to my computer and even stopped at Module 7 to demonstrate that I was in and downloading the course at more than the half-way mark.
VERDICT: So, I can't be sure but it seems like the site was in the midst of changing over their files to a new server (based on them having a new URL) and that would have given a temporary error message to anyone trying to convert links to download a course.
Here's a wise saying: If at first you don't succeed --- try, try again.
Only then should you post that something doesn't work anymore.
