Last night, while binge-watching a series entitled Charmed to Death on the Oxygen Network (I mistakenly thought it was an Investigation Discovery series because I watch the ID Channel almost non-stop), a book by Barry Reid popped up.

It so happened that the con-man character in this Charmed to Death episode had used this book at some point to change his identity to defraud others.

I made a note of the book's title and told myself that I would look into it when next I was online. So I did. I found the book, and other titles by the author. So I'm going to point you to the downloads, with direct links... if this type of reading interests you.

If you're a fan of privacy, identity protection or anything by J.J. Luna, you'll like this.

And let me be quick to say that I'm reading these kinds of books to make a character I'm writing more realistic and menacing --- not to defraud someone else. But Mr. Reid himself will tell you, this is good stuff to know because there may come a time when you will need it.

So, back to the episode. There was this man who lived a fabulous life being someone else (several alternate identities, as it turned out). He traveled the world and impersonated having earned a high-ranking military status and had doors opened to him everywhere he went. That privilege, status and access made women fall in love with him.

He met, enamored and seduced a series of more than 27 women from all over the country --- very smart women who had achieved success in their professional lives and had sizeable savings and investments --- but who were love-starved, coming out of nasty divorces or just looking for "Mr. Right."

Never did they imagine they were being targeted but all the while he was wining and dining them, the stars in their eyes blocked their view of who he really was: a spineless loser.

He would steal from one victim to fund his excapades with another one. And that's how he was able to move so easily from ruining one person's life to another one.

Eventually, it all came crashing down around him but only after these women began to investigate him. They learned he had used several alliases and there were all kinds of allegations and past charges against him.

This guy was like a chameleon and as slippery as an eel. The law was always on his heels but could never catch up to him.

He'd bilked these women out of everything they owned (one woman had to bankrupt her business to survive) and unbeknownst to them, he opened credit in their name and wracked up bills totalling tens of thousands of dollars.

One woman's 401K --- estimated to be over $350,000 --- was left nearly empty, so her little boy is looking at having to work to pay for his college education.

He did all this using his computer savvy and his charm to disarm his victims.

He had grown so bold in his crimes and felt so untouchable (since he'd done this for years without being caught) that he became sloppy, leaving laptops on and opened to whatever accounts he'd been logged into or by not signing out of his email accounts when he left the house.

The damning blow came only AFTER his victims began looking for information online and their searches revealed that not only wasn't he who he said he was by name but neither an accomplished and distinguished professional.

He left no fewer than 27 victims in his wake, ruining them financially and emotionally.

Let's hope you will never need an alternate identity or to fall from the face of the earth to protect yourself (or your family) but if ever you do, the ideas and advice in these books will show you how to do it.

@j3zr33l: Thanks for posting and for your reps but... I have no idea what you're referring to. I included the Virus Total scan in the share and it shows that 0 of 60 security engines and no sandboxes reported malicious files.

The only thing I'm missing is understanding you. Can you elaborate? If there is a problem, I want to make it right you don't give me much to go on (ex: post a link or something to substantiate what you're claiming is a problem).

There Is No Link In Your Post That Leads To The Archive You Posted The Virus Total For.

I Thought Maybe You Forgot It Since You Mentioned Being Distracted By Your Sister.

@j3zr33l: The download links are direct ones, on sites like Archive.org, Library Genesis, and PDF Drive. I called myself mentioning all that in my original post. Those direct links are all under the GET THEM HERE MAGIC BUTTON area.

Wait...! OKAY, NOW I UNDERSTAND.

Your recent post helped me to see what you are asking. You were looking for an actual rar link in the download area but I decided to post the direct links instead because I didn't want Mediafire or whichever file share host I used to take that link down. Then, I would get bombarded with "please re-up" posts.

The ONLY reason I archived the files in the first place was to upload them to Virus Total, since we're supposed to show that what we're sharing is safe (when the files size allows). But there is no reason for me to post the rar archive (I mean, it's easier for the end user to download everything all in one) but that would be a moot point for me when I gave you the direct links.

I was just trying to save myself some work --- but I suppose no good deed goes unpunished.

I hope this makes sense.

Don't Misunderstand, It Wasn't A Complaint, I Just Thought You Forgot It. I Used The Direct Links Without Any Issue.

Awesome post - I had originals of the Paper Trip methods - there were updated and revised versions as the loopholes were being closed but it was a larger file with many more goodies many years ago - unfortunately I lost them all - they were a goldmine. Thanks for sharing.
