Thanks for this, Layna! After skimming some parts, I can say that lot of it is evergreen and very clearly explained. Even some of the technical advice still holds today, though some of it makes me feel nostalgic for simpler times.
Thank you, Theo1, Boomer23 and discomix, for posting and enjoying the share.
I just re-visited my Walk Down Memory Lane share that Theo1 provided at post #10. I'm glad I did because I had been looking for the 2 George W Haylings books I had found back then but misplaced.
The two titles are: Discovered - 505 Odd Enterprises and Hidden Treasures: A Group of Successful,
Ingenious Business Ideas and Projects Gathered From All Over the World.
Below is a little summary of each book, from the ProfitFrog.com website:
Starting in his late teens, George W. Haylings began a life-long collection of the unusual ways people made money.
In 1932, like many others, he was broke. So he took a clipping from his collection and turned it into a short report which he felt he could sell (see the first entry in Chapter 8).
And George was proved right when his classified ad in Mechanics Illustrated generated numerous orders. But it wasn't until 1935 that he repeated this idea of selling money-making reports by mail. And for the next fifty years, if you ever read the business-opportunity classified ads in magazines, you saw a Hayling's ad.
An inspirational collection of 713 unusual but practical ideas, suggestions and plans for building a spare or full-time business. Compiled from the actual experiences of many "little fellows."

============================
Hidden Dollars was George Hayling's second book-length compilation of unusual businesses.
It was self-published, and in addition to numerous typos, misspellings, and pages which were printed from typewritten pages, there was no designated 15th chapter.
The formulas from the book have been included, but their accuracy of description, safety, and effectiveness are unknown. So I recommend you DON'T try them.
Here is the web link if you want to get them from the direct source (along with PDFs from others; use the search feature or click on an alphabet to bring up other documents by author's surname:
The individual chapters of these books are in html but with a Print-to-PDF utility, like Microsoft Print to PDF, you can capture the chapters as PDF documents.
That's what I did so if you want to grab what I've provided below, here they are:

To the unimaginative mind, this is just a share of ideas for businesses that succeeded all those years ago but otherwise isn't very useful now. But to those of us who can see the potential, we know that this treasure chest of ideas can give us the basis for creating our own next-best-idea. With just a bit of ingenuity and heuristic questioning, we can use Hayling's information to come up with our own idea for the next potential million-dollar-plus enterprise.
Layna, you're a GEM.
Thank you for this, and for your continuous support and shares throughout the past years. You are truly one of BBHF's biggest assets.
