Honestly, there's so much to consider when you want to 'rank' a blog post.
If your niche is not very competitive, it should able to rank when you provide high quality content without too much keywords 'stuffing'. Just write your content naturally and Google likes that. Having healthy backlinks won't hurt. Engagement from comments will do great boost to your long tail ranking.
Seriously, SEO in Google is an ever changing beast.. but if you provide simple high quality content with lots of traffic and engagement organically, then it won't be long for the ranking to be achieved.
