@10der1: A couple of days ago, I had a strange experience generating an image link with my Techsmith Capture program.
Instead of a clean Screencast(dot)com link that ended with an image extension, I got this long jibberish-filled link that had what looked like JavaScript code embedded in it. I instantly contacted TechSmith about it and while I was waiting, I used it in my forum post. Strangely, the image displayed as it should... for a minute. The next time I checked, the link broke and it left an ugly text string instead.
Supposedly, my support ticket has been escalated to a higher tier, so Techsmith's customer support folk are looking into it.
But in the meantime, I needed to put images in my forum posts, so I asked Google what to do? I needed something fast, free and easy that I could use right away.
I needed something good. About as good as the screen capture app I was paying $99 a year to use.
So Google told me I should be using Ice Cream Screen Capture and, well... "Bless your heart, Google!"
I think I'm in
!!!
Ice Cream Screen Capture is free (there's a PRO version you can upgrade to right from within the free version's interface).
It has all of the bells-and-whistles my paid screen capture program does! And I'm so happy with it that I whole-heartedly recommend that you download it, too!
It's super easy to use and it hosts your images in the cloud, I believe. With Techsmith, my images are stored in an area in my account.
And this little sucker is F-A-S-T.
There is also the option to save your images to your computer so that you can copy/paste them into emails or other applications. Just click COPY.
It captures audio, games, video and screen shots.
Now, the free version should have some limitations but you'll need to read the website to see what those are. For my purposes, the free version is enough but I'm going to upgrade to PRO. That's how excited I am about it!
Here's what the user interface looks like:
After installation, just open the program on your desktop and click on SCREENCAST. A drop-down menu gives you the option to choose which kind of capture you want. There's video, whole screen capture and certain areas. That's the one I use to select what I want to capture using my computer's mouse.
Just like other programs, it gives you the dimensions of your capture in pixels so if you are capturing a long web page, you can do it in sections and make a note of the number of pixels horizontally and then as you proceed to capture the next portion of the screen, make sure the number stays the same so that your final image will show uniformly in the screen (with no jagged edges with the text looking askew).
When you're done capturing what you want, click one of the following:
URL: As soon as you capture an image, click on URL and it generates a URL that links to where your image is saved to virtually. Ice Cream also shows you the status of the image uploading so that when it reaches 100%, the link appears in your computer's system tray (bottom-right). Just click that URL to open your image in another browser window. Go to the opened page and you will see the image you captured on a web page. Next, right-click on that image and select the option to "Copy Image Link" --- be sure NOT to select "COPY" --- it must be "Copy Image Link." Then paste that link into the forum's text editor, where you want the image to show in your post. Next, add the opening [img] and closing [/img] tags, the first one in front of and the last one behind the link, after the image extension (.png). You can then center the entire link by highlighting/selecting it with your mouse and clicking the CENTER icon in the formatting section of the forum's text editor (upper left of the UI). And that's it.
COPY: Click this if you want to copy the image to your computer. It will be saved to your clipboard and you can right-click and paste it into an email, a word processing document or elsewhere.
As I mentioned, you can capture gaming, audio and video but since I've never used those functions, you will have to explore those on your own.

And since I'm here, I'll drop my Wordle solve for today...
I've never used a tool that was so quick and easy! It has the same features that Techsmith Capture has. And it's free; and even less expensive than TS for the PRO version.
So while I'm waiting on Techsmith to solve the link problem, I am going to let my subscription expire when it ends this fall. I've always been faithful to things that work as they should but I'll be taking up with Ice Cream PRO now. It's a no-brainer!
