Hi smithnowt,

thanks for telling us about this change of policy of Udemy with new limits to download courses! :(
I do not know a good download method right now. But just a simple and useful tip: you can create a 2nd account with a couple of free courses to test any download method, and also a VPN (to protect your IP address)! Then you can use your primary account and download some courses only if you are totally sure of your download method (for your personal use)!
:)

Brilliant! But that's what I do, too. I redeem the courses found elsewhere and on this forum to a few separate accounts, so that if one gets penalized through my downloading of it, I have other accounts that are in a sense 'duplicates', so I don't really have to worry even though I don't usually bother with free courses as I find the quality of their instruction tends to be lower. Whether this is a subconscious bias, I don't know, but I've seen quite a number of free courses, and except for a rare few, they all stink.
But it's still a good suggestion by angelcrc7 if you don't mind one of your dummy accounts containing free courses being shut down as it would be of no loss to you!
A side note: VPNs are good (for privacy and anonymity), but I haven't really found one that hasn't slowed down the speed or rate of downloading, so...but I know there's a danger of being detectable without one when doing less-than-legal things. :)
Got to use one's brain, I suppose, in all these gray areas. XD
At any rate, smithnowt buddy, Udeler doesn't work anymore. When I log into the app with my Udemy credentials...or even use an access token, (since) the login just directs me to a screen which I see when I log into my account on Udemy's main website. So I'm not using Udeler anymore (and can't, anyways) till the developer fixes this bug.
Anyone else experience this issue??? Thankfully, I (still) know another way to rip Udemy courses and it's not Allavsoft - Allavsoft hasn't been working for a looooong time, even if you input your login details correctly.
It just tells you the download failed. ;(
I might get IDM, though, as it's an awesome download tool...I'm afraid I dislike watching tutorial courses on their websites' ugly User Interfaces, so hence why I always download videos from such places. :D
Greetings Teratron and All.
I last used Udeler before they threatened me - and it worked so long as the added stuff DL part was unchecked.
This adds to my theory regarding how they are detecting 'unauthorized' logins though.
Sadly, Udeler seems abandoned and has seemed so for a while already.
Its old/main URL forwards to here - and gets a 404 response:
https://www.udeler.com/donate
I think this is/was the dev's page:
https://github.com/Abdouisme/Udeler_GUI
And it has a message claiming that it is NOT dead - but was last updated 1 1/2 years ago and has zero releases.
I would not recommend using either IDM or JDL because they will likely be detected by pewdemy in the same fashion as udeler was and need authentication to work - which will also likely fail.
The OP does have a browser based manual method clearly outlined that I can affirm DOES work when already logged in acceptably - it just takes a bit of time, efforts and patience.
(It is 1000% better than screen recording too.)
I've pretty much given up on pewdemy just because after trying so many of their 'courses' it is my observation that too many are the same as all the IM guru turds - incomplete time-wasters.
Also - pewdemy's UI was horrible====> then they 'updated' it and made it even WORSE, so to all of it I now just say - meh.

and Best Wishes.
QUERY:
Have you - since the new year came, used ANY automated method to DL any PAID courses 100% fine and with no threats made by pewdemy ??
If you have done so with success - please tell us all what s/w you used to do it ??

I just remembered what I used to do before getting Allavsoft and Udeler...and did one with it.
Using Vivaldi browser, I have a chrome extension called 'Smart Video Downloader' that works for doing this.
It is still doing it 1 by 1, but less steps than the other way I posted into the OP here and likely undetectable by pewdemy.
I have 2 accounts, both 9 years old. Both have hundreds of courses, mostly free.
But I have paid for 5-6 courses over the years between both accounts. I just downloaded a course with udler and it worked to download the videos, not resources, but I have not been able to download resources with udler for a long time like you said.
I don't know why no ban or message about downloading.
Maybe because of paid courses?
Maybe because I have a number of courses that I go to on a regular basis?
Maybe it shows udemy.com I'm a human?
No idea.
That being said, not much help for you.

for your reply Davis896.
I must disagree here=>

You have affirmed that they are NOT 100% aware of everything all the time - so it may be that my own account was somehow 'red flagged' or that I was just the unlucky 'winner' of their daily threat lottery.
We may never know.
From my POV - I already have loads of course materials collecting digital dust because no single one of them has rung my bell loudly enough to keep my attention - and I am not inclined to collect any more low quality dust piles.
Maybe 1 out of every 100 (or 1000 ?!?) courses put up there are truly fact-filled and helpful - but at my age I know I cannot possibly even be alive long enough to check so many to find those nuggets.
I used to think that udemy must surely be a good resource - but after wasting enough time trying to use what comes from there...
The name PEWDEMY is a correct one IMO.
Thanks very much for the warning
RE 5 Given
Forgot to add that since the new year I've noticed every time I try to get a new free course they are always expired, in both accounts. Could be that I'm just to late each time but I don't think so because this has never happened before for this long.
And I could not agree with you more about quality. The reason I watch anything on the site is because over the years I have noted videos that explain something I can't/don't want to remember. I am on maybe 5-6 times a week for 5-10 minutes at a time, just to get the info.
I have wasted SO MANY hours watching crap thinking/hoping it was going to get better, and have been disappointed most times.
