You mention above about Tor... I would highly recommend that you also be running a decent VPN before you venture out into the dark. VPN + Tor lowers your risk while you are having a peek-a-boo under the regular layer of the web that most people use.

Thank you, GordonShumway, for adding that information to the thread. One can never be too careful when venturing onto the Dark Web.

I'm afraid I don't know much about TOR, myself; that mention of it in my post comes directly from the course seller's site --- to show that the basics of TOR are covered.

Hi Layna

At the most basic level, think of Tor Browser as a stripped-down clean browser. It does a lot to make you look vanilla on the web. Like trying to find the exact grain of sand on a beach.

No plugins allowed. No tracking cookies and your connection from you to the source is encrypted and bounced through a number of proxies to hide your location. Imagine it like this. You and a bunch of people show up at a building and everyone inside changes into the exact same blue uniform before leaving. Then you drive across town and you and a different bunch of people change into the same red uniform, and finally, you again drive to a different location and a bunch of different people change into green uniforms.... Now you go to your destination to pick up a package (what you see in your browser) but while at that location, you do not tell them anything. You just grab the package and leave....

That is sort of like what Tor does for you.

At the source end, all they can see is someone from someplace is visiting the site using Tor. They can't run a traceroute on you (if you are curious have a look/try of this: https://www.ultratools.com/tools/traceRouteResult) to get your IP and from that a bunch of other stuff like who your ISP....
