Just an interview MISLABELED as a 'course'.

Filling in that blank now - it is when either of these 2 things shows in new threads here:
'ScottP', or '3 Days only!'

Seeing either or both of those it tells me to just pass it by without so much as a look - because that will waste my time and efforts.

And why am I posting this ??
Scott Paton is likely the best known INTERVIEWER at Udemy - but;
Thinking that he is any sort of actual instructor - is pure foolishness.

The 1st few times I ran across his Udemy INTERVIEWS his presentation skill impressed me - but that was short lived, sadly.

It soon became too obvious that Scott Paton makes his $$$$ by just talking with other folks and using THEIR skills to make it LOOK like he knows their stuff.

That is Pure BS.

You're right smithnowt and thank you, it's a good wake-up call, for Scott to improve as an instructor, or for he really could create courses teaching how to interview or how to podcast or how to partner with other instructors, in areas where perhaps he could teach better. And maybe he'll be a little better instructor or interviewer, maybe not like T.J. Walker (one of the best instructors in Udemy), but at least similar!

Just, please, don't be too hard exhorting our brother Scott, who at least has been constant sharing his courses (or video interviews) in our community for many years! Something that we are very grateful for. Anyway, many thanks for sharing, Scott Paton!

INTERVIEWS Dear Angel - NOT COURSES !!!

Well said Smith and diplomatically taken Angel. In the end it's going to be a matter of taste...until one asks the question "is this worth my time?". Angel...you're very nice and diplomatic. While it would be nice to consider that Scott's being altruistic for choosing BBHF for sharing his courses...it's merely one of his rounds to elevate his stature as an instructor.

He's not the worst course creator, but he without a doubt needs to improve his format as it's not helping anyone but the course creators and THAT is my diplomatic answer.

Course creators who know of BBHF come here to get their student counts up and hoping for some written positive reviews.
Their motives are promotional and NOT altruistic - which is fine and worthy of note.

Those like mr. P who are just full of themselves know that giving stuff away here is a great way to get more and more traction over at pewdemy because that site has ZERO QC and cares not a bit what anyone posts as long as they don't get in trouble for it.

As to diplomacy - I just calls 'em the way I sees 'em.

Our forum has FAR too many things posted by fakers, liars and outright thieves who take funds without delivering - so pointing out a faker or three is a goodness IMO.

As must be obvious - I am NOT any sort of 'angel', nor am I any sort of 'devil' - just a guy who lives by his integrity and despises seeing folks being mislead and having their time and life energies drained thereby.

If I can point anyone away from some fakers during my twilight years in this life, I will have done a little bit of good after all - and cannot hope for any better than that !!

Hi smithnowt. I recognize your idea as a review of instructors instead of a review of courses. I like this idea because it can help us weed out or discover instructors based on reviews, such as yours and supported by others who share a similar perspectives. There are so many courses by numerous instructors posted in the forum that reviewing instructors could prove helpful to all. What do you think about changing the title to suggest reviews of instructors, and posting favorable reviews too?

I see great merit in your idea and at the same time I must add that the problems with what I like to call pewdemy non-courses are so numerous that I'm not sure I can list them all...lemme see...

To start with I know nothing about whatever molecular biology may be - but I could post a thing and call it a course about that if I wanted to and nothing there would stop me from doing that.
It would an utterly useless, total fake - but it'd be there.

Now - switching to IM...
A bit of the latest utter junk there now is from Fergal Downes - who most IM'ers see as a guru-wannabe - and why would anyone pay his listed price of $59 for such utter krap ??
Not knowing any better is the simple answer.

Many, many things there now are literally just uploaded sales webinars - again, total rubbish.

Then we have the scads of things that are just uploaded PLR.

A personal un-favourite of mine are those that actually DO give a tiny bit of good value just before revealing that if you want the REST of the info - the you must go to their site and pay a much larger fee directly to them to join their FULL course.

And after all that sort of baloney there are also 'instructors' who post endless numbers of worthless courses that have great titles, but are filled with circular jabber - simply because they played the numbers game and figured out that if they post 100 courses like that and get paid 10% of the times because folks could not be bothered to demand refunds, they'd do well.

There are even well-meaning folks from other countries who've posted (supposedly...) english courses that are so incomprehensible that they even totally defeat the automatic CC system there because of strong accents, poor audio and/or low volumes.
(Example - a recent one by a guy from India was spoken so fast and with such a bad accent as to be utter gibberish...and it is not even a free course !!)

If I make a guess at just how many things at Udemy are worthless now, my guess will be about 70% of everything posted there within the recent several years because that is how long IM and MMO have been getting to be very desperate realms.

Udemy very obviously cares not a bit about quality, content or anything aside of their profits, so like most IM'ers - they are fine with promoting anything whatsoever as long as they get their profits out of it.

All the above having been said - I do have a handful of very, very high quality, REAL courses that I got from there - which are few and surrounded by others which could have easily been summed up in a couple of typed out pages rather than 2 hours or more of some talking head droning on endlessly.

It would be beneficial to publicize quality courses to benefit us and not be looking at many inappropriate courses

I think it's a good solution to identify inappropriate courses doesn't look any better if you post greetings on this page
