Certain kinds of books just give a better customer experience delivered by mail in hard copy (print format).

Comic books, coloring books and certain works of fiction come to mind as examples.

In this share, I present some FREE (but very valuable) resources you can download from the site: Lulu.com.

If you don't know this, Lulu is a print publishing platform for self publishers. You can create your book, edit it and have it printed (with your own barcode or Lulu's) for a reasonable price.

There are a few advantages to having a printed book vs. digital. Perceived value is the major benefit. A book shipped to the customer via the post office or other delivery service (assuming you've done a good job with the cover and the interior isn't riddled with errors) will give the impression of value and thusly, you can charge more for it.

Some of your customers may be "old school" and will prefer to curl up in their easy-chair with a paperback.

The very fact that your customer will need to await the arrival of the package gives an aura of allure and excitement that "ticks the box" in the value column; whereas a digital download, while convenient for the customer, may not always be a good thing. Anticipation adds to your customer's desire for your product. Quick-and-easy is good sometimes and others, not so much.

Assuming you've done a good job with the A-I-D-A of your product's sales copy, your customer will be drooling by the time their book arrives in a neatly wrapped package.

A quick digital download strips away that excitement because there is nothing to build up to.

As B.B. King crooned, The thrill is gone.

BUT...

With all that said, you need to be cautious in choosing the right print publishing platform for YOU.

CreateSpace and Lulu are only two among others.

And nothing is perfect.

If you fail to do your homework, it could be frustrating (and very costly) to have your book "married" to the one platform that isn't right for you. It's akin to eloping with the first "love of your life" only to realize they weren't "the one" for you. There's a lot to have to un-do ... so get it right (or as right as you can) the first time.

So, do your own due diligence. Take whatever time you need to find the answers to your questions before deciding.

Read the small print and contact Lulu's support IF you decide to use this platform for self-publishing your titles.

Do independent research (don't just read or listen to what Lulu says about itself) to get a better sense of how they stack up against the competition.

Still, the free resources they provide (the ones I'm sharing here) are valuable, regardless of which publishing platform you choose to work with or if you decide to stick with Amazon KDP or go it alone.

And check out YouTube. There is a ton of helpful videos like these you can use to decide on a publishing platform and then market your books once they have been set up and are ready to go live!
