Rudolf Steiner, (born February 27, 1861, Kraljević, Austria—died March 30, 1925,
Dornach, Switzerland), Austrian-born spiritualist, lecturer, and founder of
anthroposophy, a movement based on the notion that there is a spiritual world
comprehensible to pure thought but accessible only to the highest faculties of
mental knowledge.

Attracted in his youth to the works of Goethe, Steiner edited that poet’s
scientific works and from 1889 to 1896 worked on the standard edition of his
complete works at Weimar. During this period he wrote his Die Philosophie der
Freiheit (1894; “The Philosophy of Freedom”), then moved to Berlin to edit the
literary journal Magazin für Literatur and to lecture. Coming gradually to
believe in spiritual perception independent of the senses, he called the result
of his research “anthroposophy,” centring on “knowledge produced by the higher
self in man.” In 1912 he founded the Anthroposophical Society.

Steiner believed that humans once participated more fully in spiritual processes
of the world through a dreamlike consciousness but had since become restricted
by their attachment to material things. The renewed perception of spiritual
things required training the human consciousness to rise above attention to
matter. The ability to achieve this goal by an exercise of the intellect is
theoretically innate in everyone.

Berlinerin, it is incorrect to consider the word 'occult' as pointing to evil.
In english, it means 'concealed or hidden from view'.

It is troublesome that so many folks have been frightened away from teachings hidden from the mainstream because they somehow got convinced that anything like that would be the same as 'devil worship' - which is wrong.

Also, the materials by Rudolf Steiner were made when people were treated very badly if they were considered to be practicing ANYTHING outside of mainstream religions (his stuff is NOT new - he died in 1925 !!)

smithnowt is correct. Occult simply means 'hidden knowledge'.

Much like today, where people are trying to change the language to suit their agendas, for centuries, religious groups made any knowledge that did not conform to their version of events as being somehow evil.
(even today some consider yoga and meditation as evil)

In fact, the whole of the English language has been Christianized and very people understand this.

People have the right to believe what they want, but one reveals themselves when they make pronouncements of certain knowledge as being 'evil'.

Now, some atheists like to claim Steiner was a racist, but here is a quote from one of his books:

On the other hand, the Planned Parenthood founder, Margaret Sanger was a 100% racist - if you are interested in demons. (Read her books, not the whitewashed wikipedia version)

Being fearful of knowledge is a sad state of affairs.

What Rudi is driving people to... is to one simple thing. REALIZATION OF SELF! or in other words... KNOW THYSELF! :)
That is easy to say.... for example I can tell you all that is preventing you from your enlightenment is your mind lieing to yourself :) And you will have no idea what I am talking bout :)

But if I cut the bullshit. To Know Thyself... you need honesty to self... and only way for it is to seek yourself... and you are driven into shit very very hard shit... hard life... lots of shit down... or in other words... cus you lie to yourself so much... you will have to chrash.. before you are able to admit the truth to yourself!
That is why the enlightment is so HARD! Cos people do not have the balls for it. They choose to live in a ilusion... its nicer that way.... in their minds :)
But still once you go true all that shit! And you get to your 1st I AM MOMENT! ONE SECOND OF IT IS WORTH MORE THAT A MILLION LIVES LIVED AS WHO EVER!
So that is the reward.. for the pain... and the reward is greater than anything you can imagine :)
If you have the balls to seek it out... GO FOR IT! ITS WORTH IT!

And there is no road map to YOU (Like in a way of a text.. you can memorize or understand... this goes above that... it is the source of understanding where it comes from!)! You will have to find and seek it out for yourself in your own unique way. As I said before... Honesty to SELF is the key! IF YOU HAVE THE BALLS FOR IT :P

Maybe one insight with dealing with them. Your CENTER IS YOURSELF... they will try to drag you one way or the other.... to the Light Helping Healing People or to the Darkness Overcoming and Controlling them. One or the other way is WRONG! Your True Self... doesnt Really Give A FUCK OR EVEN WANTS TO GET INVOLVED WITH THESE FUCKERS! But Your Mind Does... That is What They Can Fuck With... and Have Control Over... So as You Said... You Way out is Knowing Thyself! You cannot battle with them... overcome them.... that is not the way... you can only choose a path for yourself that they have no power over... and that path is HONESTY TO SELF! :D CAN YOU DO IT?
