Of course, it's not mandatory to do so, just as I am not obligated to share anything. But it's the right thing to do when someone provides for you, you thank them.

There is a pervasive culture of entitlement on this forum that is shocking as f*ck to me - especially from people who have never contributed anything for anyone in this community. The very people who balk at adding +reps and cannot bring themselves to post a kind word of gratitude are the very ones who will get carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking links or are always posting to ask for something.

Now, don't get me wrong --- I am glad you posted because I would have forgotten to add the required password to my share; but clearly, you attempted to download this huge file and now that you need the password, you posted to ask for it but couldn't hit the rep button or say thank you.

Your username says you're a real human being, so I suppose I shouldn't have expected anything more.
