At the same time - I'm guessing (from looking at the ad copy) that the only way they teach you to sell these is via your own site, so you have to have your own customers / traffic / etc.

If you don't, is there something complimentary out there that would show you how to use other platforms like amazon, ebay, etsy, etc to sell these?

Because I imagine that if you did use another platform, the research phase would be a little different (knowing what you could rank for, etc).
