This is a bonus guide from AWAI Copywriting course. Looks interesting to self check your work.

The Flesch-Kincaid Scoring report will strengthen your writing. It has secret tips to help you use and lower your FK score. And, it will teach you how to check the FK score of what you write.

@chrisg942: Max reps (and thank you) for this very useful share. I remember reading somewhere that many of the top-earning copywriters write for people who read at the third grade level (or maybe it was the fifth? I don't recall ... I will need to find that reference). At any rate, being able to write so that most people will understand and grasp your message is critical to success and the Flesch-Kincaid scale is just the tool for doing that.

Thanks for sharing.....
Thank you for the share chrisg942.

Flesch-Kincaid is something that I have been using for a number of years now. Once I learned that you can turn this feature on the inside of MS Word, it has been my writing companion.

I wrote a lot of copy for both my own websites and for those of my clients. Being able to write simple, clear content that explains the concepts is key to success.

I have said this to many of my students. Learning marketing skills is the most important thing and as a subset of that, learning direct response copywriting is critical.

If you study the best ways to write and follow along in the footsteps of the masters, then you can build a lucrative career for yourself.

Cheers,

G.S.

Ditto what GordonShumway said. Exactly.

All the copywriting in the world is useless unless you learn to write to the level that most people will understand. Then, you can connect with their emotions ... touch their triggers and provoke the reaction you seek. Flesh-Kincaid is an indispensible tool you can use to "test" your copy to make sure your audience can understand your message.

It's called readability statistics and can be found under Spelling and Grammer in MS Word's user interface (Word Ribbons). This tool can measure things like reading ease, grade level and passivity (you want active sentences)

And GS is spot-on about something else ... that tool can be turned on in MS Word. Or, at least, it used to be. I'm working with Word 2010 and find it oddly different from the previous version so I'm now trying to just find my way around in it.

In the download area below, I will include a few links to blog posts showing you how to activate Flesch-Kincaid in MS Word 2010 --- or whichever version of Word you're working with. Or you can do a Google search to find instructions on your own.

But this share is so very useful to copywriters that I am making a mirror link so that when the zippy link dies (and that 'lil sucker will surely die) you can still download it from a more reliable source.
