Does anyone know the significance of the white boxes to the left of post ?

Indicates "No new post" - either hover on the icon to get this message (if your browser settings allow) or find more info. in,

Not all icons seem to be active, eg., icon for "Contains Posts by You" does not show up for threads where you've posted.
