Thank you...this is probably it...REP added :)
re-up please
I know this thread died 2 years ago but I'd like to add my 2 cents to the discussion about people not posting thanks, repping, etc.

Those of you who said that people will post thanks with their reps are right. They absolutely do. And yes, that is appreciated. So it's not that people are not being courteous. They are.

But it's usually the same small group of A FEW GOOD FOLKS who do. Too few, if you ask me; especially in proportion to the value and quality of the shares.

I whole-heartedly support mini8's opinion, because when you look at the grand scheme of things, the vultures among us swoop in and swipe away whatever value is up for grabs. They leave nothing but dust behind. They don't contribute. They always have a hand out and never lend a helping hand.

The forum admins don't seem to mind, so there's nothing to be done.

And therein goes the way of this forum. It's a culture that is slowly eroding the value.

So, it's not a matter of whether people are practicing common courtesy (which costs us nothing to be kind) but there are some who actually defend their rights not to extend kindness to "the hands that feed them" so-to-speak.

It's not a matter of "fretting" about thanks or reps. You can't make people change so it's useless to try. But they will never see the error of their ways unless they are called out about it.

I get requests by PM on a regular basis --- more often from my "forum friends" --- people who I have built up a bond with. But sometimes, I'll get a request from someone who read one of my "how to find stuff" posts and want me to help them with something specific. Said people usually have little to no reputation on the forum and only recently joined. And usually, they are looking for some expensive, recently released course and can't tell me what they have done to look for it before they came to me. I am using this as an example of the culture here --- that people will expect you to invest YOUR time and energy into finding something for them but they don't add value and bitch about being "courteous" after get what they want.

There's an old saying --- Don't fatten frogs for snakes.

Since changes are not being made to "filter" who can come here or how much they can take before they begin to contribute, I have decided to stem the flow of my own shares. Instead of posting download links, I plan to post more helpful tutorials on how to find stuff. Little hints that require others to get what they want on their own.

Some will appreciate it; others won't.

But again, I don't think that mini8 was referring to the people who post kindness and add their rep points out of view of the forum threads.

Just look to the vast number of "views" versus the lack of "posts" to the thread.

I don't need to tell you that I get a lot of reps but I will tell you that they are from the usual loyal bunch of people who express their appreciation over and over. People I already consider my forum buddies. Every so often, there is a sprinkle of new member names I've never seen before. And I appreciate those, too.

I appreciate all the reps given to me but it's the people behind them that I notice more.

That is the tale of the tape.
