Greetings, my forum friends!
For the longest, I've been waiting for an updated version of Intuit Quickbooks to be shared here but, alas, it never materialized. Earlier today, I Googled "Intuit Quickbooks Alternative" and came to a review site that listed a few Quickbook-like applications.
All were online apps with varying costs ($11 a month to $70 a month) but one was free. No, not free as in FREE TRIAL but free as in ABSOLUTELY FREE.
Now, there are links on the site so you can read their privacy policy to make you aware of it before you create your FREE ACCOUNT and there is a link for "PRICING" so there is a paid version that (no doubt) offers more features.
This accounting software, in a review, is comparable to Intuit Quickbooks yet, it isn't for everybody. Wave Accounting is described as a cloud accounting solution designed specifically for micro-businesses of fewer than 10 employees.
I included links to additional resources like a review site and YouTube videos so you can take a closer look to see if it's right for you.
So, if you --- like me --- have been waiting and waiting for Intuit QuickBooks, wait no longer. Try Wave Accounting. If it works for your accounting needs, great! If not, at least you did not have to buy it or worry about an expiring free trial.
Here are the PROs and CONs of using Wave:
PROS:
*** It's FREE. Not free as in "FREE TRIAL." This app is actually FREE as in forever. If you want more features, you will have to ante-up for the subscription but most "micro-businesses" will do just fine with the free option and basic features.
*** It's EASY TO USE. I read a couple of reviews and both said this is one of the easiest to use accounting softwares ever. But if you'd still like to have a walk-through to guide you, there are tutorial videos.
*** You can have 2 FREE ACCOUNTS --- one for personal use and one for business use. Now, how cool is THAT?!!! The ability to use the same software for personal/business accounts is a HUGE plus for independent contractors who don’t have a separate business credit card.
*** - I Did mention it was FREE FOREVER --- didn't I?
So, how can it be completely free ... as in ... forever?
CONS
I don't know if all of these points are down-sides but you be the judge:
*** The basic service is ad-supported: Wave Accounting is supported by a vertical advertising bar that occupies a small portion of the screen. So, yes, you'll see ads but they're not the annoying, intrusive kind that pop-up or pop-under or re-direct your screen.
*** Wave Basic has basic features. If you need any high-end, fancy features for your accounting needs, you may find Wave lacking over its paid competitors; but if you run a service-based micro-business, this software just might have everything you need. Keep in mind there is a Wave paid option to get an accounting solution with fancier features that may still cost less than competing brands.
*** You don't get a choice of payment processors. This may be the deal-breaker for most. Unlike other QuickBooks alternative accounting solutions, Wave Accounting uses STRIPE exclusively. Also, despite very vocal requests from users to integrate the service with PayPal, that has not happened to date but could be coming in a future update. Still, STRIPE is more affordable than QuickBooks to make payments.
So, let's get down to the real nitty-gritty...
I hear the app/service is highly intuitive so you can jump in and start using it instantly. However, there are lots of YouTube videos to help as well as videos on their website. So, here are links to two YouTube videos that show a walk-through and a tutorial on getting started using the app:

Here is a review from Chelsea Krause from a website called merchantmaverick.com. She gives you a lot of detailed information on what comes with the free plan, the accounting method used, and reviews from actual users to get a better sense of what to expect before you sign up:

Here are links to the Wave Accounting site where you can sign up and set up your accounts. Remember - you can sign up for a personal AND business account to keep your financial expenses separate.
I also found two Udemy classes: one on how to use the software to maximize the basic features and another that shows how to use it to properly maintain your books. These classes expire on August 31, 2017 so sign up now.
