It has to do with google play services and I'm still waiting for the answer so you will need to relax until I can get the solution or someone in here happens to see this and answer it.

The only thing I gather is googleservices.json is the issue and must be regenerated but it may need to be added to the package. I know nothing about Android Studio and trying to learn it but I thought eclipse was easier to me but its not googles preferred ID

The problem is the google services json isn't visible for you to see it in the file structure so you need to click on the build.gradle ( module app)

then above the project box you will see a line of items called Pocket - App - Build.Gradle

Left click the App item and it will drop down and show you files that are not in the project box in there you need to open the google services json

Check project name is the same when you changed it. If it isn't you need to change it manually and I think this will fix your problem it did mine.
I can't find any item called google services json on the menu item.
i have attached screenshot.

Got it to work.
Removed the whole directory.
Unzipped on a new location. Opened the project and now i am able to build the APK.
I have not done anything as mentioned in this thread.

Don't know what actually the problem was...
Thanks for the share mate, +35 reps added. This should come in handy for a project I've been working on. Thank you for keeping it updated.
