I wouldn't say so! The plugin is worth!
The only thing you should do is to install a free plugin from WP Repository to stop access to your /uploads/ folder.
Of course Mark is a good developer like Brett, and they don't focus more on black hat so probably missed this angle.
Hope this helps you to save your sites.
