Oops, my bad, how do I delete that? Thought I was making a new post :(
Layna.
I wonder how long it will be before one of the mods send me a message to tell me not to create a new thread. I did exactly that today. I had shared the 100 Superfoods product 2 years ago. A member recently sent me a PM asking me if I had the OTO to that book. I didn't even know there was an OTO! I did some digging and posted the OTO in a new thread. If I hadn't posted it in a new thread, how would any of the members who had downloaded it know I had posted the OTO? They already had the book, so they would have no reason to go back to the original thread.
@StillStanding: Exactly!!!!
Prior to getting that PM, I had always started a new thread. I'd never received a message about it before and I usually deal with lala because it's easier. She's really good at helping me to get a thread removed or other things I cannot do myself.
Here are some of the important reasons I start a new thread when sharing something previously shared:
- Some threads are old ... really, really old
- Some threads are unattractive and actually do not follow the forum protocol. No visual, no sales page link, no virus total scan. I suppose a Mod never contacts people who share sh*t this way!
- Some threads had only one download link that was clearly one of the premium services or to an otherwise crappy site like rapidshare or a now defunct site like copy.com. Other links are clearly revenue streams for the OP.
- Some threads had people asking for re-ups months ago and the OP never bothered to look into it and all the people who downloaded previously failed to come back and help out.
I thought a forum like this is to help others. If you have something to share, post it. If someone is asking for something and you can provide it, do so.
Shortly after I post a new share, I send a private message to EVERYBODY on a thread where it is requested. I provide a link to that thread in the group PM so they can get it. Am I boasting? No. It's how I would like to be treated if I requested something.
And many of those people thank me and rep me profusely for going above and beyond. I know you get a lot of gratitude, too, Still. Heck, I hold you in high esteem.
So, I guess what I'm saying is people like us (and there are others) need to be allowed to do our thing ... unless and until we breach forum protocol. I felt like crap when I got the terse PM complaining about posting anew.
I like to do my own thing. If I take the time (and it does take time, as I don't have to tell someone like you, Still, who do things THE RIGHT WAY) to share something I want to share, I don't want to tag onto someone else's thread. Especially if that thread is not up to my (or supposedly, this forum's) standards.
Or that thread has tens of dozens of people asking ... "Can you re-up?" or "Did anyone else download that can help me?"
Why would I post anything there that will get lost in those posts? After reading several of those, no one will read further to get to the link I provide.
I want to bring ATTENTION to my shares. I want people to get them.
The mod who sent me the message said my new threads create extra work and he has to keep deleting duplicates. I understand that, and I complied. However, I work HARD to keep up my reputation on this forum.
I want to be considered a "go-to" girl when people need help...assuming I can help.
I want to contribute value with everything I do, so that the BEST in bestblackhatforum.com can proudly boast its name.
I see a lot of shares where someone with 0 reps starts a thread where they "found" something on another BH forum to share, with no visuals, no sales page references, no cloaked links, no virus scan, and no common sense. And I ask myself: 'Did this Mod send THEM a private message?'
I'm not trying to call anybody out but why would you phuck with someone who is trying to contribute to the improvement of this great forum and let the bad apples slip by? It makes no sense. If you're going to complain about deleting threads, delete the bad ones to begin with. Weed out the trash! And goodness knows, there's a lot of trash to take out!
Sorry ... I'll get down from my soapbox now. But your post made me re-live the experience all over again.
I appreciate how some of the mods are kind enough to thank me in a PM for what I try to do here. I love sharing. I love the forum and I love the friends I've made among you. But every once in a Blue Moon, some dweeb comes along and riles me up. I then swear I'll leave and never share again. Then I remember, I do this because I WANT to and I love it.
I don't shrink away from a challenge. I just wish the moderator who contacted me would see this and understand what I'm trying to say.
I have a certain way of posting my threads. I follow the forum's guidelines and provide everything it asks for. I even provide a link to the forum thread where something was either REQUESTED afresh or via re-upping links. I want my threads to be visually appealing. I even use an html color-code app to pick colors that match the color of the product images because the color selector tool on the forum is limited; would be nice if they can upgrade it to allow you to slide and custom match colors.
But I digress...
Why can't the forum Mod just follow the link to the old thread and delete that one?
Look, the last thing I want to do is to P-O a forum moderator; I love it here and don't want to be banned ... but sometimes you've just got to have your say.
Peace-out!
