Please use the rep adding button. It's enough if you do just that. There's no need to write a reply to the poster and thank them through a post.
Adding a reply using a thread just bumps the post and when ppl who have already seen that thread see your reply, they see it higher in the main page.
Hope you understand and would desist from posting a reply.
You could just up their reputation and that is enough.
