I watched the case study video so far.
Basic idea is he uses InDisplay ads to rank #1 for high traffic keywords where he then gets people onto his list.
The bulk of his business is conducting interviews / reviews and then redirecting his list to those videos/reviews. This isn't much different from other youtube-based marketing platforms except he's using some youtube paid ads.

Also found the facebook group. There are only 10 paying members in there that I can see, so the upsells didn't work out too well for James I bet :)
