Hi Tim/taernst, you have exceeded your private message quota, messsages cannot be sent.
I was thinking of doing a few classes on Udemy but now that it's changing it's format and deciding how much a course costs and not allowing instructors to give away coupons. I'm not too sure this is the right format, for making money. It's great for them, they'll make lots of money. Not so much for instructors. Most of whom, struggle to make any money, even with giving away coupons to prime the pump. What are your thoughts?
Hi taernst, could you please send me a coupon for your course please?

I think an instructor, in order to be successful within Udemy, should create as many courses as possible and take advantage of the emails sent to students where they can send discounted coupons.
However, the price rise will force teachers to become creative, if they wish to maintain their sales level... for example, they could consolidate two courses into one, offered at 20$ and discounted by 50% to 10$.
I bought several courses at 3-6€ availing of discounted coupons, if a topic was interesting and the course seemed comprehensive: I admit I still need to start most of those courses, and before spending 10$ (which in Europe is 12€ due to VAT etc, I think) I would definitely make sure I'm getting good value for my money.
I won't be buying courses unless I am sure I will take them within a couple of weeks, probably many people will buy fewer courses than before, so it will be harder to get reviews and they will likely be more severe (if you pay, you somehow expect more value than if you were given a course for free).
I think this is what Udemy wanted anyway, we'll see if it makes their market sustainable in the long term.
I hope I'm making sense.

Depends on how you regard Udemy, doing things this way will remove a lot of poor quality sellers, who just want to send out email after email offering extras, private mentoring, software etc etc.

There really is plenty of rehashed garbage on there, priced at $300 but this week only buy it for $25 ( when it's not even worth $5 in reality ).

The genuine sellers of decent products will still get buyers.
