how do you assure the followers are real?

I am a bit confused here asI gain about 250-500 followers a week and cant say how many are bots or not but would love to know how to distinguishy how

The thing about bots/fake followers, for sure they do not engage.

1. The way you can tell real or fake followers by the number of followers ratio you have is a healthy ratio of an account, 10% of followers to engagement. Also fake/bot followers don't like your content immediately after you post and constantly getting liked through your followers base, we all know fake engagement or followers are added on a fixed time frame.

Do check on the profile of the followers I can garuntee that they are real people posting photos of themself, not blank accounts profile pictures or empty accounts with avatar picture.

Also one more thing, you don't get the followers immediately. These followers are gained through viewing at your profile when they visit. Some days you'll get 50 followers, and some days you get 120 followers. You'll see that there's no fixed amount of followers per day and with the engagement.
