The shortcode creates a 'placeholder' that will default to some predetermined value you insert in it if someone comes to the page without the modified URL.

To see the term you want in the page text, use this URL "Yoursite.com/pagename/?pm1=Text You want to use". pm1 is parameter 1 whereas pm2 used in that code would substitute a different term into the parameter 2 shortcode.

Not as clear as I'd like, but it sure beats their instructions!
