Yes it is great for quick ranking but they won't stay there if they're not being fed link juice for other resources.

All a competitor has to do is more than you to out rank you. Keep that in mind next time you and a friend are in the woods together being chased by a bear.

You don't have to be faster than the bear just faster than your friend.
