Hello guys today I will meet with a client and he's a hairstylist who got ripped by someone who made him a website. The website has 0 seo on it and it doesn't rank for anything in google unless you write the full domain name and search it.
However, we'll have to think at a re-design and make it dynamic and not static since he has a work where there are always updates to do.
I was thinking at something pinterest-like wordpress website because:
-I'll teach him to add images of his clients work from his phone so his clients will be able to see the image from their phone (ofc responsive website) when they are still in the saloon;
- his clients will be able to share the image to facebook, twitter and g+ so he will reach a lot of his client's friends;
- possibile comments directly on the images using disqus which lets you sign-in with facebook - it's faster than anything else on mobiles.
I'll also do some SEO work for him even if I'm confident that on-site SEO will be enough to make him rank first spot- first page locally.
So, any ideas? Are there flaws in my idea of a pinterest-like website for him? Should I aim at something else?
I'll meet with him in about 5 hours :)
i think for a client such as this, once bitten twice shy all that, willhelp to provide a non-commital Demo or proof of concept up front. I like ur idea on the Pinning of clientelle.
I cant tell u howmany times in my life regardless whether the barber on the corner (1970s lol) or even high end salons (93+) have these S***** outdated style catalogues !! and have the time i reach for the nearest cosmo or ppl, and point to what i like from there :P this gives a good reason for ppl to keep coming back and hook in the whole social aspect without much effort - instead of the usual random traffic, or those only to make a booking every once in a blue moon.
I dont really have ideas for you, but i do know a guy who pretty much rocked Pintastic, with his tattoo parlor, even made a custom theme and all. its a pretty sick site. but yeah hopefully provides some inspiration , i have this theme if u want it or to use as a base, thats not that standard S***** white and red. if u wanted to use it in parallel to w WP site or something. but there are more than a few decent plugis or themes with teh exact same functions tbh. pintastic = ovepriced masonry grid :D

Don't reinvent the wheel.
Google hairstylist in an another area similar to the subject location. Study all the top ranking websites and paid ad sites.
Research which sites are appealing, by looks and language, color etc. Then mimic those aspects into your site.
But do not steal the exact item. This is how I build my sites.
However you MUST wear your customers shoes, when doing this. Have people who are the target market evaluate the site design before you execute the site.

What you are saying is doable somewhere else but not in italy. It's hard as an seo/web design/online marketing guy to make anything here because noone is doing it right.
All my clients were ripped off by companies who made a really bad work for them and most of the websites are made by the same guys so they really suck under every aspect. I cannot and I don't want to copy my websites from other guys and I want to build something keeping in consideration what my client wants.
This particular client was absent from google, had 0 social activity and no interaction with his clients when they got out of the door.
However, I landed him, he's already on the first spot in Google (he's really happy about that even if it is literally from on-page SEO and some citations), the website is up, has traffic and likes on the pictures even before the client gets out from his "shop", the facebook page went from 50 likes to 700+ in these weeks and now we went on with building an email/phone number list to promote new products and new haircuts once every 2 weeks.
He agreed with me and changed all those "blankets" they put around your neck so the hair doesn't fall on your clothes with new ones which have a trasparent part where his clients can use their phone.
He paid me even if we are still working on a few things and he really looks happy about the project.
Now we get to the hard part...find another client

it's the part I hate...fingers crossed
