Sorry, not trying to be mean, but the Visual Composer that comes with theme is customized to the theme, so installing original Visual Composer you lose all the options from the theme this way. I tried it that way on Newspaper theme, and this theme is same author.

Newspaper and this Newsmag needs update to latest. Usually these themes are immediately updated, but not recently.
