simply keep all your domains that are expiring in a simple spreadsheet on google docs, set it up so it emails you 32 days before, transfer or move to a different provider at a much lower price that $45.. have never paid that for any domains at NC since they started!

Remember to transfer it to another registra 3 months later since you registered your domain.

And this works best for some testing campaign

I heard a lot of bad review about 1and1, best to stay away from it and go for Namecheap.

1and1.com provides .com domains for 0.99$ for first year. I know many guys bought this for event domain and made good bucks with adsense.. But they take 4 days for approval. Worst service. But can be used for such event blogging business just for few days.. :) hope this helps..
