What is the benefit of sending traffic to a single page with variable content as opposed to just sending it to different pages based on the user keywords?

Yes, it works with CPVlab or any other tracker that uses subids.

You only build 1 landing page as opposed to building several for one campaign. All your doing is changing up elements (text/image) per keyword, instead of creating a new LP for each keyword. Saves massive amounts of time.
