Just paste links with clickbaited titles, then promote your paste on popular forums. People will be copy-pasting your links because of pure curiosity.
They have "trending" section:

I would suggest you to go with influence's. You need to choose trending topics. You can make use of twitter mentions. Google Plus is also a great way.

Why don't you try instagram marketing to improve your brand awareness. Make your site more authoritative. Is your site contain user generated content. I think it is not exactly like 9gag. Any way use polls, Facebook Apps, quizes. There are some of the post types you can make use apart from video :)

The site is more of a family content. A buzz mag. And it's not user generated content; curated by my VA. Facebook works of course as long as you keep boosting. Other than that I'm looking for sites like 2leep.com
