The 1 cent is to verify you have a credit card so you can be billed for next month. Im sure they use the credit card for identification as well.
They will tag the account you are paying the bill with. Discontinue after one month and when you will sign up again for this coupon they will cancel your account. I know hostgator for a very long time trust me.

you can pay with paypal as well and they will do anything the next month just click pay one time and not subscribe
