I would usually create the design of a website by basing a Photoshop document on a screenshot of an existing WordPress theme home page.

I usually do this in Photoshop but I will be also showing you this in GIMP, a free open source equivalent of Photoshop.

Choose the WordPress theme that you're going to base your websitehttp://wordpress.org/themes/

I'm using the sample child theme on the Genesis theme framework. I always use Genesis. You don't really have to worry too much about writing HTML and CSS with Genesis as the framework is so customisable. http://robcubbon.com/go/genesis

The sample child theme on the Genesis theme framework is perfect for what we want. It's mobile and tablet responsive when you change the device that the site is viewed on it will respond so it will always look beautiful and legible.

The video shows you how to create screenshots of the background of the theme and then how to paste in a logo and customise the design of the theme in order to first show to your client and get approval before you start developing the theme.
