In Fitness And In Health + Teleclass Replay
It was first published as “In Fitness and In Health: Everyone is an
Athlete” in 1989, Dr. Phil Maffetone’s book has sold more than 100,000
copies. After its second edition, the book was expanded and revised for
two printings of a third edition.
For many years Phil’s Bars were available through the MAF Group and eventually
MAF BioNutritionals, but the bars have not been available since 2004. The obvious
solution is to make your own! While this recipe is a little different from the commercial
formula, it’s actually the one Phil uses to make his own bars and it’s better. When you
make your own bars they cost a lot less and the ingredients are much fresher. Try
making a batch on Sunday for healthy snacks throughout the week. This recipe and
other formulas for better health are included in the new 5th edition.

into dry ingredients (at this point, you may have to mix it all by
hand if your mixer isn’t real efficient). Shape into bars, cookies
or lightly press into a buttered muffin tin. You can also press the
batter into a dish (about one inch deep) and cut into squares.
Sometimes these are better when allowed to dry. Adjust the
water/honey ratio for less or more sweetness. Keep refrigerated
(they’ll still last a week or more out of the refrigerator). For
other flavor options, use fresh lemon instead of cocoa, or use
more coconut.

takes on such new subjects as the importance of sunshine in health, the organic food
movement, weight loss, gut health, biofeedback and the role music can
play in enhancing overall well-being.

In addition, the book contains a special passage called “Health, Drugs and Rock ‘n’ Roll”
about Phil’s work with the late Johnny Cash. This compelling new ending reveals how
“The Man in Black” actually improved his overall health and human performance near
the end of his life in order to achieve a dignified exit.
