I was also looking for this feature.
What I did was to click on the "Edit" button in YOUR POST.
I then chose "Full Edit" and at the bottom of the post you can choose by way of the radio buttons to subscribe and receive email updates.

I found a short cut.
You must make a "New Reply" and NOT a "Quick Reply" to a post.
You will find the "New Reply" button at the bottom of all posts.
When you click that button, you will be provided with options to receive or not to receive future email notifications.

...you can't...i have been searching high and low for it. No choice but to just make a "Reply Post" in order to subscribe the thread....
