The big list of pointless activities in SEO……

So so so many threads lately asking about which of the pointless (near useless) activities people should be doing to improve there SEO…. Hence the picture… “Watching the grass grow” would be almost as helpful to a website as the things listed below…. (Please add to the list!)

1. Counting your key word density
2. Adding “spun” or “crap” content to your website for the sake of increasing content.
3. Social book-marking spun or crap content
4. Submitting a website to hundreds of free directories
5. Submitting articles to heaps of free for all article sites
6. Creating a blog when you do not have and skill in writing blog articles
7. Buying heaps of keyword domains so you can redirect them to a single domain
8. Creating heaps of websites to give yourself links
9. Wasting time commenting on heaps of forums so you can get signature links
10. Stuffing you text, alt tags, metas etc with keywords
11. Checking your rankings heaps of times a day
12. Stressing over the next page rank update
13. Sending out hundreds of link exchange requests
14. Buying software that promises to increase your SERPs
15. Copying someone’s else’s page because that page ranks well and therefore believing if you do the same thing your should rank well to.
16. Asking for help from people who know what they are talking about and then arguing with them because you did not like the answer.
17. Buying cheap links
18. Using hidden text
19. Wasting time on trying to get links when you have not finished your website and it looks and reads like crap.
20. Thinking you can compete in a very competitive market ie ‘gambling’ when you have little money and no experience.

So my friends what else can you add to the list of pointless (near pointless) SEO activities and which do you think is the worst offender….

OK so you've pointed out near useless SEO activities, the negative, but what would you suggest then. A lot of your points are suggested SEO activities by many a many people, guru or not. I'm just curious what you would suggest as not useless then?
