Spam and Rep Fiasco - (Unlimited BBHF REP!) - We need new rules!

I was sick of people continually posting messages incessantly which take all the posts out of order, until I discovered a big reason why!

They're reaping repping rewards. (Links at the bottom)

U: Posts "Thanks!"
S: Reps U 5 rep for "support"
U: Goes reps and "Thanks!" 20 more threads

So if U spams 30 threads, they get 150 rep!
If they spam 100 threads, that's 500 rep!

I noticed this since I used to be a massive sharer and now seem to be being out repped by spammers, seemed suss!

We need new rules, people shouldn't be getting repped for posting "Thanks!"

I propose we make a new rule that we can only be repped for sharing something of value, like coupons, courses and valuable tips in the UDemy section.

This first examples seems to have 70+ pages of reps gained just by posting thanks (15 reputation post per page) 70 * 15 * 5 = 5250 rep!

Let's have a look at user 14217:

4,758 of 5,180 (92%) of his rep points are from "thanks" messages.

A couple of the reppers seem to be statistically way out there in quantity of rep given to this user.

864 times of this person getting repped were of the exact same 3 messages.

I commend the repper on their exactness and consistency, seems they have near inhuman skills!

It's possible user 14217 hasn't noticed this, is just thankful and inadvertently messing up the thread order. I'm trying not to judge that.

But should 92% of a persons be rep be made in response to "thanks" messages? I feel not, it's not the type of contribution I feel deserves 5 points of rep each.

The rules should be changed to stop people giving out such quantities of rep so irresponsibly.

I'm sorry if I've offended anyone, but some things need to change.

Is rep convertible to money? No. Chill out then! I also found the 'reordering' of posts annoying when I first joined, but after a little while I appreciated that's how it is here. Bumping posts with thanks is only annoying if the course or coupon is no longer free. Repping and thanking the sharer at least shows them respect and gratitude...

This post bothers me more than 100s of thanks. I never thanked for anything other than thanking and you cannot prove that anyone is thanking for reps even with your example., And just suggesting this is a lack of respect. You have the right to imagine negative reasons for ones actions but keep em to yourself please.

Also, what is this message doing here?! Where's my Udemy course ??? I vote this be moved to correct thread or deleted.
Ps why you didn't contact a mod directly if possible instead of bothering us about what bothers you that badly.

Also, it takes me milliseconds to jump over those threads and for most I already have the course, maybe you can find a different way to navigate through ? You know, change yourself instead of changing the whole thing for everyone?
I like the way things are and I don't know why this post is here in the Udemy free course section, where's the course you're sharing with us mate??

I ban rep abuser even before.
I ban rep abuser right away if they are non vip.
VIP rep abuser are being warned, repetitive their rep+ will be revoked.
VIP can give unlimited rep+ but i guess i had to ask admin to limit this since rep+ is clearly abuse in that way. Thank you for creating and reporting this thread.

Hi brothers, I wanted to write since this useful thread was created, but I couldn't do it before!

Many thanks 饿死我了 bro, you are absolutely right, and you have the right to show concern about this issue, with real data and sufficient evidence. ;)

Truly it is not fair that there are brothers who just by thanking have as many reps a day as if they were really sharing useful new resources to this forum, as others shares really do, sharing daily. This is obviously an easy way to receive reps, without sharing anything, without commenting anything, without working anyway. :(

Nevertheless, it is also not fair to judge or condemn our greatest VIP sharers and brothers just for giving their reps to those who thank them, because in reality they are only being generous giving reps (some reps daily for years) to those who have also given them daily reps and thanks (it has been they will: to retribute that very important support for the sharers), and because without our VIP sharers there will not exist this section, nobody share like them, definitely nobody; they deserve all respect and gratitude always. And also, it is not fair to condemn those brothers who give thanks and reps to the sharers, because they only want to show gratitude to those who share, without asking for reps; and they deserve maybe some reps, but with some limits maybe. :)

As a sharer, I give few reps to those who give me thanks, only on certain occasions that merit it, and to those faithful brothers who frequently give me reps to support me, as a sharer. But I give most or all of my reps to the other great sharers and contributors, who really deserve it more than any other, just because they are promoting good resources to our community (even if I already had those courses by my own means). I also receive reps for giving thanks and other contributions; but I think I well deserved every reps I received, because I always share many courses, resources and meaningful content daily. ;)

The only solution on this issue is to set limits in BBHF as Omni Potens well proposes, and to define new rules in BBHF as 饿死我了 well proposes. :)

I also suggest:
That the system itself should facilitate giving more reps to the threads that someone has created and shared with so much work (this is: the first post of any thread). But on the other hand, allow but limit only giving less reps to the additional posts (from the second post onwards) where the thank you messages are written; but also where all new coupons are written :(. Maybe setting this up may be useful, if possible, I don't know! ;)

I understand reps are a form of acknowledgment. I believe reps are intended to acknowledge people who post meaningful content. I believe reps are also meant to encourage people to add more meaningful content because the forum flourishes with meaningful content.

I understand the idea of meaningful is subjective and dependent on the forum community as a whole. This suggests meaningful content is content this community wants.

This idea further suggests someone with a higher amount of reps posted more meaningful content compared to someone with a lesser amount of reps. Is it possible rep count is a very clear method to recognize people who contribute more to the forum?

higher reps = contributed more meaning content
lower reps = contributed less meaningful content
zero reps = we're still waiting for this person to contribute

1. What do you feel is the purpose of reps?

2. How do you feel about people earning reps WITHOUT posting meaningful content?

the higher your rep, it means the more you contribute, the more you get the respect.

--> It is called "REP+ Abuse" and i warn and ban several members already doing that or keep on repeating doing that kind of useless rep+.

--> this can be considered in such a way, if i am the thread starter and someone say thanks on my own thread, i will add him a rep+ even it was not a meaningful content, but i add him rep+ cause he appreciate my own thread instead of leeching it, so it justify that the rep+ is given,
BUT ... but... but if you keep adding same rep+ on the same person who posted thanks on your thread, then thats basically a rep+ abuse, and who knows your adding a rep+ on that account cause that was your dummy account, and the sole purpose was just to farm rep+ or abuse the rep+ , that is why i wont tolerate it, i already warned, banned several members doing that, and it will not stop me from banning them, rules are rules.
