Redesigning Clients HTM site to Opencart, How to avoid losing 1st Page position on Google?

Basically I am redesiging his htm site to perhaps wordpress and adding store.domainname.com as a subdomain with opencart. He currently ranks between the 1st page and 2nd page of Google for his keyword. I am deadly afraid of losing his ranking but more so the amount of money I can make on this project. Please give me some tips as I never stumbled upon this issue. I am still in the learning phase.
