[REQ] The reading list that made me 6 figures
I encourage every business owner (myself included) to read at least two business
books every month. Of the books I've read, these are the books I consider must reads
for any freelancer or consultant looking to level up their business. The advice in these
books is worth $100K easily.

The Positioning Manual
Properly positioning yourself is by far the single most important thing that you
can do to level up your business. Philip is a friend of mine, and I absolutely
endorse his succinct, actionable advice.

The Brain Audit by Sean D'Souza
Once you've positioned yourself, The Brain Audit will provide you with a
blueprint for thinking about your ideal clients in a way that will help you write
an effective sales letter.

The E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
Once you're a sophomore in business, the E-Myth will help identify and avoid
the common pitfalls that destroy newly successful businesses.

Book Yourself Solid by Michael Port
BYS is a blueprint for building a sales pipeline. I can attest that implementing
Michael Port's advice has literally booked me solid.

Value-Based Fees by Alan Weiss
If you want to write winning high-value proposals that don't rely on the cancer
that is hourly billing, then this will be your bible. It also has some good general
advice on consulting.

Winning through Intimidation by Robert Ringer
Originally published in 1973, the title is misleading. This book will help you
stop being intimidated by others.

Pitch Anything by Oren Klaff
Much like the previous book, Oren introduces the concept of "frame control,"
which once you're aware of it, will help you stop being intimidated, and start
winning more sales.

Getting the most value out of these books

  1. Some of these build on others, so I've listed them in the order I'd recommend you read them.
  2. Rather than keeping notes, write down action items for your business.
  3. Try to revisit your favorites after several months. You'll often find you get even more value the second time around because of your new experience.
