Hi, Znj1377. I am sorry to hear that you're having to deal with this.

Unfortunately, dementia happens to most of us, eventually. Caregivers are special people. They go through it, in a very real sense of the word, and manage to come out on the other side once the ordeal has ended. It's very hard to see the faculties of someone you love diminish so quickly and to tolerate the brash behaviors you know come directly from the disease that is taking over and is, usually, not a part of that person's loving temperament.

My sister back home had to deal with it and it was rough going as she cared for our Dad. Ultimately, she retired early just to be able to focus on the quality of care he needed and she was vehemently against nursing home care. My dad was always someone who had to have his own way and she did everything from hide his car keys (he'd begun talking about "appointments he had" with people who are long dead and eventually began to hold conversations with media personalities as he listened to the radio or TV before falling asleep each night.

He has been gone to Glory since 2017 but in almost every conversation I've had with my sister since, she refers to her experiences caring for my Dad as if it happened only yesterday. I try patiently to re-direct her to living in this moment; reassuring her that she did the best she could for Dad and he's gone to a better place. Still, she feels the need for that association and I have no choice but to allow it. It's her way of lovingly connecting to him as a caregiver, despite the hell his dementia took her through.

But this isn't about me or my family experiences. I'm here to help you but I just needed you to know that, through my sister, I have some knowledge of what goes on.

I searched for "dementia course download" and got some interesting results (see a snippet of results below):

The first entry is an advertisement but the second one seems to offer free educational resources and most of the links are for professionals.

I assume you're looking for this for a family member (untrained professional) who will provide care for the person going through this. Here are a few suggestions...
