RE: [READ] Easy Way to upgrade your basic memberhip in BBHF to Uploader status
@StillStanding: I know you wrote this post some six years ago but it certainly holds true today. There's certainly nothing to lose by asking for an upgrade if you have been a valuable member to the community and your rep count over the term of your membership justifies that consideration.

I think it's a shame that people have to seek upgrade status. I'm not a programmer so I may look silly saying this, but there must be a way for forum systems to detect how much a member actively participates or contributes that it can auto-update (upgrade) one's account. Again, I may be naive to think so, but I'll bet something like that can be coded in instead of depending on someone to do it manually.

As for my own experience, years ago, I remember asking Lala to help me with removing a share after I discovered an issue with the download. After she removed the post, I got a reply back that my account was long overdue for an upgrade so she took care of it for me. And since then, I am able to give +5 reps (max) as many times as I want to, send a single PM to upwards of a couple of hundred members at once and more.

I can't tell you how many times I have received PMs questioning me about a forum-related issue like the cost and qualifications of becoming e a VIP, why a post they wrote in error cannot be deleted or how to get all the badges that appear in my user icon. If it is something I can help with, I do but it is usually easier for me to tell them to contact Lala when I am uncertain that I'm giving them the right advice.

And goodness knows there is no easy way[/i] for members to find quick answers to their important forum-related questions.

There should be a new member area with a series of short tutorial videos and informational posts on how to get the best benefit from one's membership, how to find stuff and make a share post, as well as a section on what NOT to do to keep from getting one's account banned.

It makes sense that basic status comes with user limits but restricting REPs may shed some light on why people don't rep as much as they should; especially when basic status doesn't limit how much one can download per day, etc.

I agree --- asking is the only way to get something you feel you deserve.

I'll bet the forum moderators won't be happy when they get bombarded by a horde of members all asking to have their accounts upgraded. But, until there's a better way... 10rofl

@layna61524, I certainly agree about the forum having a "new members area" or at the very least a "FAQ" section, but if they haven't done it by now they probably never will.

The reason I even put up this post was because of two emails I got the same day all those years ago. One member sent me a PM about one of my shares and he/she was a new member, had 0 reps and only a few posts, but had "uploader" status! Later that day another member sent me a PM and they had over 1400 reps but was still a basic member!
What was wrong with that picture! I though it must have been some type of glitch with the forum's software. I did some research and found this kind of thing happens on a regular basis. BTW, I heard from several members that when they contacted Lala, she upgraded them to uploader status within 24 to 72 hours. and it didn't seem to matter how active of a member they were.
