QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK? This isn't as much a REQ as it is a simple question... HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK? I see them popping up more and more. I understand the concept that one can only see/get the download link after they publish a post. Someone here had to explain it to me because I thought after posting, the OP would contact you via PM with the link. But now I'm wondering is there some benefit to the original sharer? Or is it simply a mandatory effort to get people to post something? If so, what's the purpose? A "Post to Unlock" thread having 100+ posts all saying "thanks" look ugly; especially because these "forced" responses come mainly from usernames you rarely ever see engaging others on the forum. You get whole pages of posts from newbies with little-to-no reputation on the forum. Or worst, long-time members with equally pathetic reputations. People who come here to GET but never GIVE. And but for the fact that they're being forced to come out of the shadows of their caves, and "thank" someone (against their will) is the ONLY reason you see them. So, again, they get to benefit without contributing any value. Some people will post appropriately, saying "Thanks" or "I've been looking for this! Great share." Others will post their opinion, such as (not in these words per se) they don't enjoy having to post to see a download link. But sadly, most will simply parrot the "post to unlock" phrase. Then there's the gobbled-gook like euowuru wrouw ojer or other BS. Just knowing they will access the download link after posting ANY OLD THING defeats the purpose this may have been intended to accomplish (ex: create meaningful member engagement). I'd also like to know: What "code" is used that enables the download link to show only after readers post a comment? And can someone get around it by simply looking into the INSPECT context menu to find the link without the mandatory posting? Look --- I am all for getting leechers to change their ways and become value contributors but I don't see this as the solution. I am hoping that someone who knows can give me some insight. And I honestly hope the moderators don't simply shut this down without a reasonable comment (other such posts had met that fate). I simply want to know and I can't be the only contributor here wondering why there are so many of these kinds of threads now and the purpose for them --- because what it's doing is airing ones dirty laundry by forcing all of the leechers front-and-center or they simply will have to do without the downloads they're after. |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
![]() The only advantage that I can see is that someone from out of nowhere can suddenly rack up thousands and thousands and thousands of reps in just a few weeks or months that have taken some people years to achieve. As far as your other sentiments, I could not agree more. 12days PS I left you reps! |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
They have increased the signal to noise ration exponentially. I have seen others comment on the ineffectiveness of them as well. How no one actually comments or makes reviews anymore, and if they do, they are lost in all the post to unlock comments.
Used to be a rule of thumb, look at all the new posts, if under 1000 views then it is pretty new. These days, a new post can be several thousand views in mere hours due to everyone posting to unlock. When I come log on in a morning], there is usually about 10 pages of new posts, the majority post to unlock. I don't have time to go through them now to find the decent stuff. I don't think it is a good idea and it is not stopping anyone from leeching as you and others have pointed out. |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
@12days and DacInBC: Thank you both for posting and for the reps (12days).
While I appreciate the people who bring us valuable shares we cannot otherwise get in a premium link search or through a paid membership to a file share site (ex: SlenderMan and a few others whose names escape me at the moment come to mind), I simply wondered: "What's in it for the original poster?" I can tell you it has taken me years to achieve my reputation numbers. I really began to share around 2015 because it took a while for me to catch on. Throughout those years, I have always encouraged, begged and even bribed people who read my posts or sent me a PM for help to become active sharers --- but mostly, to no avail. But why should they when they can freely take away from (without strengthening) the community? Okay, if I don't get a response on this, I'll just let the thread die. The last thing I want to do is upset the Powers-That-Be and get this thread shut down. Yet, I had to ask. Can someone who makes these kinds of posts reply --- in a PM if not on the thread itself? So (again), I'm trying to encourage engagement. |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
(My unproven theory) I wonder if it makes the shared link last longer. For example, if I search Google for a course, many links, including those in this forum, show up in the search results. It appears that someone outside of bbhf can access the same links and increase the chance them being shut down sooner.
That might have been the original intent, now it appears to be a way to gain rep points. |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
I agree with all this. Loads of useless "post to unlock" replies. I must admit myself, I got bored of replying and just do post to unlock.
As a VIP, we should not need to post to unlock, and all others should join VIP, as talking from my experience is the best thing I did. |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
My only gripe with this is
1) Now there is no review of the product. Even if someone post it, there is no way it can be found with the number of replies to unlock the download link 2) dead download links, and you will have tons of these unlock post and you can never get anyone who downloaded it to mirror it. I wish instead of the post to unlock option, it should have been give rep and see the link (i doubt there is such a functionality, would have been nice if the forum software creator add it) or, get to see the link if are a VIP or have a certain amount of reps, that way at least people would try to post mirror etc... |

RE: QUESTION: HOW DO THOSE "POST TO UNLOCK" THREADS WORK?
MY [REQ] HAS BEEN ANSWERED SO MODS: YOU CAN CLOSE THIS THREAD (IF YOU LIKE) BUT I'VE GOT A LITTLE MORE TO SAY TO LEECHERS Very legitimate concerns and great suggestions to all who posted. Like my forum friend, metaworldpeace said, knowing how to do a simple Google search will bring up a lot of shares on file share sites and forums alike (BBHF included). I routinely see my posts in a search and have access to the links without even logging into my BBHF account! And as my blackhat buddy Nokia1 said, as VIPs (and I'll add anyone who regularly contributes) we shouldn't have to post to unlock. It seems we've earned the privilege. And I completely concur with wrath's wonderful recommendations. There's got to be a way to achieve some of his suggestions but I'm no techie, so it's beyond me. But if a person cannot afford a +1REP for a download, they need to EARN the reps to be able to "spend" them. Try going to a store and picking up something and walking out without the transaction and see what happens. It's bad enough we're sharing OTHER PEOPLE'S PRODUCTS with you for little or nothing (except for GBs) ... the very least you can do is click the +REP link before you even click the d*** download link. Like wrath, I find those Post to Unlock threads mind-numbing to read through with not a single one of value: no course reviews; no suggestions for unique and unusual ways to employ what you learn from the course (to limit competition) and no mirror links --- but that's an iffy one. I wanted to mirror something on a Post to Unlock thread I had access to on a paid members site but decided NOT to in order to broach the OP's authority. It was his (or her) thread, after all. And the requirement to post to see the link meant I would have eliminated that, possibly envoking their anger. Yet, people who posted ended up seeing a shut-down link (because too many leechers either used it or posted it elsewhere). Even trying to be helpful can get you in trouble with GB sellers "telling on you" because you're sharing something a simple Google search turned up links for. I know it's the forum's policy and it's a transaction based one that I understand. As for making someone give a rep for a link; makes sense. I've been saying it. Yet, the forum metes out reps to people based on their time here. I've had people tell me "You deserve more reps but I'm plumb out. I'll come back in a few days to add more." So now we have a case where people "can't give what they don't have" so it's not their fault. LEECHERS: LEARN TO BE A BETTER BLACK-HATTER Most of the people who repeatedly post (or bump) REQ threads, ask for re-ups, and beg for GBs need to hone their black-hat skills. Clearly, they don't know about: - All the free file share sites online you can use to download everything from ebooks to courses and more! - The very inexpensive pay sites you can get a lifetime membership to (got 25 bucks, you're in!) to download many of the guru marketing courses shortly after they hit their launch date! - The way to search Google to find many popular course files ... IF you can use premium links! - The very inexpensive app that converts premium links so you can download like you're using Mediafire or Mega. In fact, it supports non-premium links, too, so you can make quick work of those huge Mega downloads and avoid Mega's file size limits! Learn the skills and get the tools you need and you won't be posting nearly as many REQ threads. MY QUESTION ANSWERED: I am posting to say that someone I trust and highly respect (whose username shall go unmentioned) was kind enough to contact me via PM. Their response satisfies my request --- so I'm good now. And, of course, I will not post any of what was confidently shared, so as not to betray their kindness or potentially upset any of the mods or site owner who work so hard behind-the-scenes on BBHF. Without this forum, there are very, very few places to get what you'll find here. Believe me, it's not like I'm looking to create any Post to Unlock threads myself. Yet I respect some of the folks who do it. Were it not for contributors like SlenderMan and the few others who selflessly share hard to find, all but unavailable (unless you have their mad skills) course files, most of us would have to go without. What pisses me off is that grown-ass people who are supposed to be business owners (or have aspirations to start an enterprise one day) are still acting like snotty-nosed brats...begrudging people +REPs or "thanks" while posting big WANTS for themselves, bumping (and freely clicking links from) OPPs --- other people's posts. Yet ED sets in their fingertips when the time comes to UPLOAD anything of value for someone else's benefit. I'M DONE: I want to also say, even if you agree with me (thank you); there is no need to post here now. My main question has been addressed. Not completely; but enough that I'm happy with it. I still don't know the benefit of a Post to Unlock thread but not everything has to have a "reason why" and I'm willing to live with that. MODERATORS: If you like, you can delete this thread now that I have an answer to the most important part of my question. I appreciate that you left it up this long yet there's no need for it now. But if you notice, the few people who posted in agreement with me ALL have forum reputation cred --- numbers in the high hundreds (at the very least) to the hundreds of thousands. People rep them for the value they bring as contributors. They matter. What value does a leecher bring? |
