Need guidance to work online as a freelancer

Hi everybody. I need some advice from you guys for working as a freelancer.I want to work as a virtual assistant or do other online work (other than coding)for the client.I am seeking advice as i dont want to join the sites that offer these kind of jobs.I want to approach and communicate with the client directly as i think its a better way to build a relationship. I am willing to do this for a long duration if that is what is required.

thanks derek77 i was just asking if there is some proven or trusted site where i should search as you know many of these sites have payment issues and if you are talking about freelancer kind of site then how do you suggest a newbie to proceed to get an order in the presence of so many other experienced guys thanks

look you hav many freelancing sites such as upwork and elance are great in my opinion.no worries nobody is gonna cheat you look into their profiles to know about them and their payment status.
