Download the file to your computer, then upload to Virustotal to check, and you'll get a different result.

RE: Neat Download Manager" similar to IDM except it's FREE
Now, this is interesting. I took a look at both VT reports and they both seem like mirror images. I tried to determine some factor that could explain the two different results but the only difference is that hlw77's scan shows a file size, whereas pecq's doesn't.
So, I followed your instructions: Downloaded the application from the same link posted in the OP to the desktop of my computer (I did NOT want it saved to my Program folder; just in case there is an issue). Then I ran a local scan using Malwarebytes and it passed. Next, I uploaded it to Virus Total and I got the same result that hlw777's scan showed --- the same 4 engines detecting an issue. According to the VT report, both of the AV programs I use (Avast and Malwarebytes) give this software a pass; so it's important to note that when interpreting a VT scan, we should be concerned only with the AV program that resides on our computer since some software is set to be hyper-vigilant and the "detection" could be a false positive. Still, it is interesting to see two different results from what appears to be the exact same upload and it concerns me that there could be some issue (one of the engines outright calls it a Trojan). @pecq: Can you tell me exactly how you uploaded the file to VT? From your instructions to hlw77, did you allow the program to install or simply sit on the desktop? There shouldn't be a difference but I thought I'd ask. I double-clicked it on my desktop to see if perhaps, there was another executable or other files hidden inside that could be the source of the problem report. But all I got was the option to install it; so I declined --- until I can find out more. I want to take the opportunity here to say "Thank You," pecq, for the share. And when someone posts evidence of an issue, that is no reflection on you. I am happy that you posted another VT link that seems to refute any problems with the software but since my results mirror what hlw77 found, I'm here to ask how. I am simply trying to get my VT results to look like the one you have, since it would be great to have a free IDM-like tool at my disposal. I really like IDM (and I pay for the privilege) but there have been times when I would gladly consider an alternative. for reading! Layna61524 |

Thanks for all the efforts Layna61524. Much appreciated:-)
It appears that Pecq scanned the URL (http://www.neatdownloadmanager.com/file/..._setup.exe) of the source, and got that result. |

RE: Neat Download Manager" similar to IDM except it's FREE
Interesting thread Pecq - for making it.
Mostly, all the controversy here about results from M$'s VT caught my attention...I have no need for this tool myself though, and here is why=> I've tried lots of DL managers and found that they all had holes in 'em (did this, but NOT that, etc...) EXCEPT for JDL - it does everything I've needed ever since getting it. Since it has a Java version - it is also OS agnostic, so as a Linux user it works perfectly for me. (These days I actually do more uploading though.) I -only- use the Java version of it, it updates itself ALOT, and gives me zero problems. If anyone wants that, I've posted very clear details here: http://bestblackhatforum.com/Thread-GET-...-from-mega Yes, that thread was aimed at megasuck, for which I've also used MegaBasterd, but the JDL details ARE there. BE SURE TO READ THE RED COLOURED WARNING IN THAT POST !! As posted here - JDL can also be used to grab local copies of Udemy courses that you have enrolled in: http://bestblackhatforum.com/Thread-Grab...ts-Besides I mostly use Udeler for that, except for the need to get any 'resources' which may come with a course, because pewdemy has blocked those lately - but JDL can still use your login for pewdemy AND get those things as well. . . Best Wishes to All for Prosperity in Perfect Health !!
I totally despise board spammers and spambots !!!
