Important Info About WP Back Up Plugins-The Eat Your Hosting Like Pacman
Hi Guys
I might be preaching to the converted here but I discovered something I didn't know and it cost me through my own ignorance if just one of you doesn't fall into that trap my mission will be done. :>) Did you know that almost all Back-Up Plugins don't overwrite the saves they make so slowly but steadily they are eating up your hosting space? I was building a big site so didn't think much of it when I went from 10GB -20GB in a few weeks but when a few days later it was 30GB was getting a bit concerned but with thousands of products seemed feasible. So eventually worried I upgraded to Cloud Server (not actually a bad idea but not for the reason I did initially). But screw me within a week I had used 50GB of space and this time alarm bells rung WTF I hadn't added anything to the site and it had used 20GB. Panicking I called my host Siteground who are excellent by the way. Well to cut a long story short every back up since I started was hosted on my server so I had actually used around 12GB of space and had 38GB of backups if you have noticed your site seem to be taking a lot of space check your WP-Content file it might be housing a very large pile of history (Wayback Machine lol) Hope this helps someone it cost me from $48 per year to $50 per month which because of my site I would have ended up doing eventually but maybe a few months later had I known. |

I use the free version of Duplicator and do manual backups for the couple of sites I have.
While I'm at it I delete the previous backup. For all that have that backups on autopilot this is useful info. Thank you. |

Good info. Even for local system backups, do keep an eye out on the usage, else you'll find your free space disappearing faster than trends in vogue on fashion week!
