[HELP][TUTORIAL] SPAM, Phishing and Virus Popups
This will help you avoid problems with SPAM, Phishing and Virus Popups. ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ It will NOT stop a lot of the popups from actually happening but it WILL stop complications of the popups LOADING crap that you don’t want and using up your available resources and stuffing up your computer. ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ It also blocks a lot of advertising and other stuff that are not popups of course. Go to: Magic Button : If the site is blocked in the hosts file the popup will open but THAT'S ALL which is harmless because it will not connect to anywhere. A couple of tips that I personally use are: ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ 1. I add all my personal stuff just below the localhost stuff at the top. That way it’s easy to get to and find . ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ When you see popups with addresses that flash by so fast you can’t even read them (and you will) never fear - when you are finished what you are doing just go to history and there they all are really neat in a list for you to copy over to the hosts file. REMEMBER: If you find that you are not getting to a site that you need to do a search on your hosts file to see if it’s blocked and comment it out or delete it.. Example only: Magic Button : Also, make SURE that you save it as "hosts" (without quotes) only without any other extensions or it will NOT work at all. ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ 2. If I am doing something like trying to download shares, etc that is popup intensive I just let them be until I am finished and then just delete all the windows at one time which is a lot more efficient than trying to do each one as they popup. They normally go to the background so don’t really bother me unless it is one that loads in new tabs instead of new windows and gets in my way. 3. In addition to adding site .com also make www .site .com as well. Also when you get swdvasdf.site .com add listings for site .com and www .site .com as well. The blackhole shown in the example is for new stuff that I add as it comes along. ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ If you're wondering why the 0.0.0.0 instead of 127.0.0.1 it's because 0.0.0.0 is instant (faster) and uses no resources and 127.0.0.1 is not and does a lookup or tries to find a connection, etc. Enjoy, ~~~ post by ratzazz via bestblackhatforum.com ~ YEAH! ~~~ RA  .

UPDATE now a way to use wildcards in the hosts file

UPDATE: if anyone cares. With the OEM windows hosts file you have to add EACH different host for the same domain SEPARATELY one at a time such as: example.com srv1.example.com sr1.example.com agde.smg.example.com adf.example.com etc, etc, etc and you CANNOT use wildcards which REALLY gets tedious. Now I found a small program called Acrylic DNS Proxy by sourceforge that you CAN use wildcards with!!! That means only ONE entry for SPAM domains instead of MANY!!! Here’s the short version description: Magic Button : Eat it up everyone!  Enjoy, RA .
