All the same - would you please explain the ways to do what you mentioned in your reply when someone who is thick like myself is sort of missing it ??

This is wordpress's built in search facility. It works even if you do not have a search box on your site. If you just create a hidden download page - i.e. no links to it in the menus, this method will find it: site.com/?s=download - assuming the word download in on the page. Or just try ?s=a - most pages contain an 'a' ...

If you use this method on your site, there are plugins that can turn off search for specific pages.
